25 Reasons You Should Start An Online Business

Are you feeling fed up with your job?

Lots of people nowadays are turning online to start their own business and create a different kind of life for themselves.

Here are some reasons why it could be a good idea for you to do the same:

  1. Time Freedom

Working for yourself means that you and you alone can decide when you want to work and when you want to be free.

You can design your work around your life, instead of the other way around.

Of course, in the beginning you will probably be putting in a lot of hours setting everything up until it is up and running, but then the possibilities are there to create your ideal working day.

  1. Place Freedom

Working using just your laptop and your mobile phone gives you the freedom of working from anywhere in the world.

All you need to do is make sure that you have a decent internet connection and you can literally be wherever you want.

  1. No Commuting

Who can argue with the time saving of this one?

If you’re commuting for two hours a day on top of your 8 or 9 hour day job you’re really putting in an 11 hour day each time you go to work.

This for me is a massive highlight of having your own online business and I love that you can put that time to better use by not having to travel.

  1. Make You Own Work Schedule

Don’t like early mornings? Or working late?

The world is your oyster when you are in charge of your schedule. You can start work at midday if that’s what floats your boat and work late in the evening, or get your work done early in the morning and have the time free that you want to have free.

Having a flexible schedule is a bonus in many respects. It means that you can fit your work around family appointments or other commitments that come up in your life without having to get permission from your employer first.

  1. Create A More Interesting Life

How many people do you know that never want to discuss their work?

I’ve encountered many people who avoid talking about their work when you ask them how it’s going. They literally have nothing to say about it as everything has already been said.

They stop talking about it, and aren’t excited about their work anymore to want to share it. They live for weekends and holidays and maybe their hobbies.

Don’t be that person. We spend a third of our lives at work. That’s a lot of time to try and ignore.

Instead, be the person who lives an interesting life and career that others are interested in and want to hear about.

  1. More Job Security

When you work for someone else you are not in charge of your own job security, your employer is. If you’ve ever been let go this is painfully obvious.

There is less job security nowadays than in the past when people had a job for life. I have friends who have unexpectedly lost their jobs after working in the same place for twenty years. They had no plan b in place and now feel lost.

That doesn’t have to be a risk you have to take.

When you are the boss it is in your best interest to keep yourself employed and you can adapt your business to changing circumstances if need be. No need to lose your job.

  1. Decide On Your Own Income

A big perk of having your own business is that you decide if you want it to be a part time thing and just boost your income a bit on the side, or if you really want to go for it and create a lot of income.

Whatever you feel happy with is what you can achieve. You are the one who must decide what effort you want to put in to get the results you need.

  1. Freedom Of Expression

Being creative in your life is essential for many people to live a fulfilling life. If you’re like me and like to use your imagination and get creative to push the boundaries, then you are one of these people.

Many jobs neglect to satisfy the need to create and evolve in your work as there is often quite a repetitive element involved and you are probably only doing a selection of smaller tasks in the operation of the business as a whole..

If it is just you in your own business then it’s likely that you will be involved in all of the many different aspects of your business, and will need to be creative when it comes to the direction that you want to move in.

This can make you feel more alive and satisfied with your business and your life in general.

  1. Impact The World

To be successful online you need to reach a lot of people. You will get noticed, and as a result will have an impact on the world outside your door.

You will be paid in direct proportion to the value you create in the marketplace.

So create as much value as you can in the world with whatever skills and knowledge you have been blessed with. You will reap the rewards.

  1. Reinvent Yourself When You Want

Once you have learnt the skills you need to be successful online, you can literally use them to start a new business or two on the side, and branch out into whatever you like.

Having done the hard work of learning the world of online marketing once, it can be applied to help friends and family, or completely change the direction of your business to adapt with the times.

  1. Challenge Yourself

There is no danger of being bored when you are guiding your business.

You will need to do things out of your comfort zone to improve your business. This is how you improve and grow your business.

Taking on new challenges can be exciting and rewarding and lead you to success in areas that you hadn’t even thought about before. And when you overcome an obstacle it feels great to be on the other side of it!

  1. Learn New Skills

Inevitably there will be times where you will need to learn new skills to help your business improve.

At the beginning especially, there will be many things to learn about the running of your business and what works and what doesn’t.

All of this training will enable you to build your business to new levels and advance in your field and grow as a person.

  1. Create Your Own Dream Instead Of Someone Else’s

When you work for someone else you are helping someone achieve their dream. But when you create your own business you are working towards your own vision and dream and bringing to life what you think is most important.

This in turn creates enthusiasm for what you are doing, which brings a greater quality of life, as you spend each day doing what YOU want and need to do.

  1. Improve Your Personal Life

Stepping up to overcome challenges in your business can create positive changes in your personal life too.

For example, I used to procrastinate no end (my family call it faffing!), but since starting my own business I realised that it wasn’t serving me to act like that. Now I work in concentrated bursts of focused time and get more done in a shorter amount of time, which means that I can spend more quality time with my family as a result.

I also now make an effort to create a balance between the different areas of my life: health, weath, self and social and carve out time in my week for each of these. If one starts to slip then I renew my focus on it until things feel better.

  1. Be Proud Of What You Do

Putting in the effort to create a successful online business out of an idea that you’ve had is a real accomplishment that you can feel immensely proud of.

Having pride in your work means that you do a better job and create a better outcome.

It’s hard to equal that feeling when working for someone else’s dream.

  1. No Ceiling On Growth

You decide how much you want to grow your business, and where and what you are going to be happy with. If you want to invest in yourself more in terms of education and training and expand your business more there is no-one there to tell you that you can’t.

The sky is the limit! You are only restricted by your imagination.

  1. Create Passive Income

Working online has the capacity to create earnings as you sleep, or do yoga, or spend time with your family.

Many online tasks can be automated now with the use of automated email lists and suchlike, which will free up time for you to do other things while your business is ticking away in the background for you.

  1. Develop Better Habits

Many entrepreneurs realise that they become better people when they start their own business.

When you are in charge of all sides of your business your weaknesses will become apparent, as there is no-one else there to blame. What better solution than to overcome them all as you make your new business work for you and overcome unhelpful habits.

  1. Recognition

Getting known as an authority in your sector online means that you will become recognised as the ‘go to’ for what you write about, whether you are the guru of online yoga, a master of gardening techniques, or an expert on nutrition.

With potentially thousands of followers online reading what you have to offer and appreciating your advice. If you maintain a positive space online people will be attracted to you and will follow you.

  1. Holidays As You Like

No more having to get all your holidays booked in at the beginning of the year so that they don’t clash with your colleagues.

If you need to take some time off for whatever reason, or want to travel for an extended period while you work, no one is going to stop you except yourself.

  1. Wear What You Like

Have you ever been frustrated with what to wear to work?

A big advantage of working from home is that unless you’re doing a photoshoot or on a webinar where you want to create a good impression, you can wear whatever you are most comfortable in.

So if that happens to be your favourite snow bunny pyjamas, or some yoga leggings you feel great in, then you can go for it.

  1. Create Your Ideal Workspace

When you’re based online there’s no need to rent office space or furniture.

But you can create a home office that looks amazing and feels great to work in!

Imagine having carte blanche to make your productivity soar by being able to choose exactly how you want your work environment to look. It’s a lot of fun having the freedom to set it up yourself.

That combined with having continued access to your other household stuff all day long, and you’re onto a winner.

  1. Give Back To Your Community

Fancy making some t-shirts with your logo on it to sponsor people in a local race in your community? You can.

Want to support a cause that’s important to you by contributing using your skills as an online marketer? You can.

How about encouraging and helping your niece to raise money for her cheerleading club?

It’s all possible using your skills of working online.

  1. Something To Pass On To Family

Leaving a legacy to your family when you pass on isn’t really possible when you do a 9 to 5 day job for someone else.

However, with your own online business you are able to pass your automated earnings on to your kids or other family members, or even for them to take over the family business at some point if they are interested.

  1. Economical To Start Up

You really can start a new online business with just a laptop, a phone and a good internet connection in the beginning, which makes it very affordable.

There are no overheads to be concerned about, or buying of physical products.

The only thing you might want to consider investing in is some online training to help you learn the basics of online marketing.
I find the training and mentorship provided with online training invaluable for motivation and discovering nuggets of wisdom that you otherwise wouldn’t have come across.
